A 27-year-old who died after a fatal shooting in Waverley Road on Thursday (March 20) has been formally identified as Mahad Abdi Mohamed. His family, who are being supported by specialist officers, have released a tribute asking for privacy during an “incredibly difficult time”. The tribute said: “Our family is grieving the profound loss of a son, a brother, a father and a friend. “We kindly ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time. The Saxon King in Petersfield Avenue is thought to be the first of the purpose-built pubs on the Harold Hill estate, according to Havering Libraries.  The watering hole opened its doors to customers in June 1955, just days after The Morris Dancer opened as a pub after being converted from New Hall Farm.  Upon opening, the Saxon King was a Courage Brewery pub leased from London County Council.  Havering Libraries’ archives have preserved information of the pub’s first landlord, 42-year-old ex-Flying Squad Det Sgt Albert Herron who ran the boozer with his wife Ivy.  Its name, like others in the area,…

Emergency services were called to Vauxhall Bridge Road at 9.20am on Saturday (March 22) following reports of a collision.  London Ambulance Service crews and London’s air ambulance were dispatched to the scene, and police cordoned off a section of Vauxhall Bridge. But according to the CAMRA website it has had a “chequered” recent past under different managements as The Smyth Arms, The Sussex Bar and The Fixer Upper.
