Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were sent to the scene after flames ripped across open land just after 11am. Around four hectares of grassland were damaged before the fire was brought under control at 1.59pm. London Fire Brigade confirmed one of its specialist Wildfire Response Vehicles was deployed. The off-road unit can carry nearly 500 litres of water and allows crews to pump as they drive, helping to tackle fast-spreading grass fires. This week, the Recorder is looking back at the history of Dagnam Park – a green space in Harold Hill locally known as The Manor due to its past. It was initially the site of the Dagnams estate, home to a manor house which was bought by merchant Richard Neave in 1772. The Metropolitan Police was called at 5.53am this morning (August 25) with reports of a fight in London Road.  Officers were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered a man in his 20s suffering from injuries.  He was taken to hospital where he remains at this time.  His condition has been confirmed as non-life threatening.
