The car left the road at speed and hit multiple objects near the junction of Newham Way and Noel Road around 8.30pm on June 30. A large emergency response arrived and the driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died on July 5 from his injuries. Those closest to him have been told and are being supported by specialist officers. A 27-year-old man was arrested the same day on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. PC Sean Gannon, who serves with the Metropolitan Police’s East Area basic command unit, competed in the national event on Saturday, June 28. PC Gannon, based in Romford town centre team B, took part in a series of strength challenges. Events included a silver dollar deadlift, overhead medley, farmers walk, Conan’s wheel, and bag throws. The competition ended in a tie, leading to a grip strength test using an axel bar and a 140kg stone. PC Gannon won by just two seconds. Churchfields Junior School won the long term excellence award at Transport for London’s Travel for Life Top Schools Award. Most pupils now walk, cycle or even scoot to the school, which is just off the A406 North Circular Road, in a programme supported by Redbridge Council. A fire on Electric Avenue saw 10 fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters called out yesterday (July 7) at 9.41am. Thousands of homes in Croydon and Streatham are facing a second day without water. The affected postcodes are CR0, CR2, CR4, CR7, and SW16. A burst pipe on Commonside East in Mitcham Common is responsible for the shortage. As a temporary measure, water has been rerouted from other pipes, and it is hoped “all properties affected should have water back in your taps.” The leak has been stopped and the excess water drained, according to Thames Water.
