Duchess Sophie visited Newman Catholic College, in Harlesden Road, on Wednesday (May 7), to celebrate the school’s gardening club, community foodbank and community garden.  The visit was arranged through the London Children’s Flower Society, of which the duchess is a patron. The materials, including corrugated roofing, were spotted in Sainsbury’s car park, in Finchley Road, on April 29. They were still there on Tuesday (May 6). Meagan Edwards, who lives with her partner Karl McKillop, reported the fly-tip to Sainsbury’s on April 30 and to Barnet Council on May 2, but says she has received no response. The Brigade wants care home providers to avoid emollient creams containing paraffin, petroleum, or natural oils, which are flammable. The call comes after the tragic death of Cedric Skyers, a 69-year-old grandfather, who died in a fire at his care home in 2016. The fire was caused by a cigarette, which he accidentally dropped while unsupervised. Mr Skyers was wheelchair-bound following a stroke and used emollient creams. An investigation into his death found the risk assessment did not consider the use of emollient creams. Pictures have been sent in showing what is left of the herd in Romilly Road, Finsbury Park. Two of the four topiary elephants have come under attack by an invasive disease known as honey fungus.  The fungus is a largely hidden killer, spreading underground and destroying the roots of plants before attacking the dead wood.
