This week, the Recorder is looking back at the history of Havering Country Park – one of the borough’s largest green spaces with royal links. The park was formerly part of Havering Park and once home to the Royal Palace of Havering, with a history dating back to 1066. Berkeley Homes has submitted new proposals for Armourer’s Court in Arsenal Way to Greenwich Council. The development will be built on top of the Elizabeth line station box’s eastern end. In total, 575 flats will be created in four towers between 13- and 26-storeys in height. Three years ago, the developer was granted planning permission for a different version of the scheme, which was smaller and included 52 fewer flats. Police were called to Carlton Vale on Wednesday (July 16) at 9.11pm to reports of “suspicious circumstances”. At the scene, police found a man who had allegedly been causing criminal damage to several cars by jumping on them. A 32-year-old man in one of the cars has been taken to hospital with minor injuries. No arrests have been made but investigations continue. Footage circulating online appears to show a car windscreen being stomped by a man before he jumped onto another vehicle. Firefighters were called to the scene in Mitcham, south London, after the “naughty” shelled reptile started the blaze. The lamp fell onto hay in the tortoise’s aquarium, starting a small fire in the maisonette on the fourth floor of a residential block of flats.  After rushing to attend to the fire, crews were made aware of two pets in the property and rescued the fire-starting tortoise as well as a dog, who was found hiding under the stairs.
