A historic building in Harlow’s Old Conservation Area is set to undergo repairs following damage from a car crash. Cabot House, a mid-19th century two-storey structure, located in St John’s Walk, Harlow, was hit by a vehicle, which means the front and some interior features need repairing. The building, known for its clay pantile roof, exposed storey posts, and distinctive black weatherboarding, will have its damaged external wall and timber window repaired and replaced. Although care staff found Mr Lawrence on the floor in his room after his fall alarm went off, they failed to identify his injuries rib injuries.  He was not taken to St Helier Hospital until three days later – his injuries led to him developing a haemopneumothorax and pneumonia and he died two weeks after the fall. Environmental health officers carried out visits across the borough between February and July 2025, issuing low scores under the Food Standards Agency’s national food hygiene rating scheme. Four businesses were given a hygiene rating of 0, meaning urgent improvement is required. A further 15 venues were rated 1, indicating major improvement is necessary. The 35-year-old teacher admitted that she re-wrote the pupil’s coursework before submitting it. Essex Police described the protest outside The Bell hotel yesterday evening (August 8) as “peaceful”, although one man was arrested after an officer was struck by an object.
