From Wednesday (November 26) until Saturday (November 29), several bus routes will be affected as workers employed by London Transit prepare to walk out over a pay dispute. Strike action will impact buses between 5am on November 26 until 5am on November 28. Wantz Road car park off Oxlow Lane was officially reopened on November 10 after being closed for 12 months. A Barking and Dagenham Council spokesperson said the facility was initially closed due to persistent vandalism and fly-tipping which led to it being unsafe to the public. Sam Dear, owner of Robertson’s Fishing Tackle in Oxlow Lane, began a petition to reopen the facility in July after telling this paper he was watching the 87-year-old business “die” with the loss of customers. The scheme would see the DLR extended from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead, with a new station at Beckton. This will finally bring a rail link to one of London’s most isolated areas. Thamesmead is one of London’s most transport-deprived communities, and leaders say the extension would begin to tackle decades of inequality.
