Wantz Road car park off Oxlow Lane was officially reopened on November 10 after being closed for 12 months. A Barking and Dagenham Council spokesperson said the facility was initially closed due to persistent vandalism and fly-tipping which led to it being unsafe to the public. Sam Dear, owner of Robertson’s Fishing Tackle in Oxlow Lane, began a petition to reopen the facility in July after telling this paper he was watching the 87-year-old business “die” with the loss of customers. The scheme would see the DLR extended from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead, with a new station at Beckton. This will finally bring a rail link to one of London’s most isolated areas. The London Fire Brigade were called to Sundridge Avenue just after 8.30am today (November 20) to reports of a car on fire. Two fire engineers from Bromley Fire Station attended the scene. The fire was put out just after 9am. There have been no reports of any injuries. A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “We were called at 0837 hrs today to reports of a vehicle alight on Sundridge Avenue in Bromley. “Two fire engines from Bromley Fire Station attended the scene and extinguished the fire by 0905. “There were no reports of any injuries.” Source link
