Discussions are underway to demolish Atik – which sits on the corner of South Street and Havana Close and replace it with a block of more than 290 ‘co-living’ flats – homes with private bedrooms and bathrooms but communal living areas.
While the proposals are still at pre-application stage, a public consultation was launched by Urban Sketch and Legendre UK in September.
Havering Council’s strategic planning committee will hear a presentation from the developer at its meeting on Thursday (October 23).
A council report published ahead of the meeting reveals that the 294 flats will be spread across a single building, consisting of six-, eight- and nine-storey sections.

Most of the shared facilities would be located on the ground floor, such as working spaces and a gym, while the first to eighth floors would house the residential accommodation.
Shared roof terraces on the first, sixth and eighth floors are also included in the proposals, according to the report.
The development aims to provide an “alternative” for single person households to traditional flat shares or HMOs, the report says, while still providing future occupiers with “an element of independence” by including kitchenette and bathroom facilities in each flat.
The pre-application scheme has already been presented to Havering’s quality review panel, who provided a range of feedback – including that a larger space is needed for public use at the site.

In response, the developers suggested an urban coffee shop and co-working space on the corner, which would be opened up to residents in the area.
A temporary use of the former nightclub as a theatre has also been suggested while the permanent redevelopment is in the works.
Other proposed developments set to be reviewed at the strategic planning committee meeting are for the Liberty shopping centre and YMCA Thames Gateway sites.
