There is “something fascinating about wandering through homes” and seeing into the heart of a creative studio, artist Jacqueline Wagner points out.
So she is opening up the arts trail for the first time in October for art lovers to follow.
“Art takes on a different quality seeing it in a home rather than on the sterile walls of an art gallery,” she says.
“People can discover hidden artistic gems in unexpected places — in converted garden sheds or Victorian drawing rooms.
“I want artists and talented hobbyists creating joy in their spare time to spend a weekend of sharing and connection with art enthusiasts in the area.”
The neighbourhoods of Crouch End and East Finchley have long had an arts trail, Jacqueline realised.
Now Muswell Hill gets its own trail, with 50 artists taking part, thanks to Jacqueline who paints herself “small scenes of happiness”.
Jacqueline wants people to “wander from one artist’s studio to another” looking at their paintings and objects like handmade dolls, ceramics and jewellery.
The Open Studios Muswell Hill and Alexandra Palace weekend takes in 30 places which are displaying art, on Saturday and Sunday, October 11 and 12.
Homes and studios are open, as well as the Pavilion Café in Alexandra Palace and Sable d’Or in Muswell Hill Broadway, from 11am to 5pm both days, with free parking at many venues.
Most places are showing watercolours, oil paintings and drawings. Some also have photography, music and even upcycled clothing.
People can chat with artists about their techniques and even find gifts for the festive season ahead, from prints to original paintings.
Colouring sheets are also available for young people while parents grab a coffee at one of the cafés taking part.
A flyer with details of the artists and addresses is being made available in the area in late September, with an invitation to “come along and see if you can bag an early Christmas present” or just see art on artist’s walls at home.
