Anytime Fitness is working on a brand new site in the Abbey Quay development.
This will be the chain’s first gym in the borough and is said to be the first new gym to open in Barking since The Gym Group in East Street opened its doors in November 2014.
Brand manager Miles Sita lives in the town and is working closely on the opening.
“I can wear two hats in this situation – my local hat and my business hat and I can say that it’s exciting to bring the brand to Barking,” he told the Post.
“It’s so nice to come into this vibrant community where there’s developments happening everywhere and provide another premium leisure space to the community.
“It’s a very exciting development and a very exciting time.”

Miles revealed the projected opening date for the gym is November 7.
“It’ll have state-of-the-art equipment, expert advice and something that separates us from other gyms is our amenities like treatment areas and recovery areas as well.”
Miles and his team are focused on generating awareness of the new gym and membership presale has recently been launched.
He said: “We’re focused on brand awareness and gathering interest from people in the area but also beyond as we know there’s a wide catchment area beyond Barking.
“If you were to go to the site now, it’s pretty much just concrete – internal work has just started.
“The structure has been sorted but we need our guys to go in and actually make it feel like a gym.
“Once people see the club, they’ll love it – it’ll look amazing.”
