The post received hundreds of responses, with south London areas like Sidcup, Sutton and Surrey Quays coming up into conversation.
But Anerley in the borough of Bromley received the most votes in agreement, with 243 Reddit users who also agreed that it was one of the most unassuming parts of London.
Nestled between Crystal Palace and Penge, Anerley in the borough of Bromley is a small suburban area within close proximity to Crystal Palace Park and with links to central London via Overground.
But whilst some Reddit users felt the area was a little more run of the mill, one reddit user commented on some of the area’s strong points, including the TikTok-famous Chatsworth Bakehouse, its Sunday Market and nearby Crystal Palace Park.
Some other parts of Bromley also came up in the thread, including Bromley itself and Hayes among other areas.
But whilst Reddit users may have said it was “average”, Bromley was recently rated one of the best places to live for families by Making Moves London, as well as one of the best places to retire by the Telegraph.
Bromley’s market scene was also given praise when it was named the UK’s best market towns by Independent Cottages due to its age, its number of listed buildings and reviews on TripAdvisor.
Some argued that Penge was a better place to live, with one user listing some of Penge’s attributes to be its brewery, taproom, local butcher and “surprisingly good number” of local eateries.
However one user added that many areas around Crystal Palace were “quite unassuming”, on account of the “lack” of local high streets and shops and being largely residential areas.
They wrote: “It’s a largely residential area that looks boring but is actually pleasant to live in.”
