Andi Osho, who has appeared on the likes of Mock The Week and started her acting career as a nurse in EastEnders, returned to her former Barking and Dagenham College after more than 30 years.
Plaistow-born Andi studied performing arts for her A-levels there between 1989 and 1991, then went on to write two novels and was also a comedian for a time.
She visited the college book club at the Rush Green campus to meet students and to read an excerpt from her latest book, Tough Crowd, when she was asked how to achieve success.
“It requires discipline and tenacity,” she told the book club members.
“Having a growth mindset is important — and acknowledging that you don’t know but can learn.”
Andi’s first role in EastEnders was the nurse who delivered Honey’s baby and she made the students laugh when quipping that it made her “qualified as a midwife”.
It wasn’t just the students who were keen to tap into Andi’s expertise.
Lecturer Samuel Nelson is writing his own novel and was modest enough to ask Andi for advice, revealing afterwards that he got “some great tips”.
