The blaze in Albemarle Road, Barnet, was first reported to the London Fire Brigade (LFB) at 1.44am this morning (January 16).
25 firefighters in four fire engines were dispatched to the scene, locating the fire at the ground floor of a semi-detached home.
A man and woman were removed from the property and were declared dead at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
The fire was under control by 3.14am, with the cause now under investigation.
A spokesperson for LFB said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters responded to a fire on Albemarle Road, Barnet.
“The fire was located on the ground floor, in a semi-detached house of two floors. A man and a woman were removed from the property by firefighters. Sadly, both were declared dead at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.
“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 0144, and crews from Barnet, Southgate and Finchley fire stations attended the scene. Firefighters had the incident under control by 0314.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.”
