It comes after Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said that “several of the victims” are from families within Brent’s Gujarati community.
The flight was departing from Ahmedabad airport, with 242 people onboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
It’s reported that 53 of the passengers were British nationals.
According to the BBC, three of the victims were Portuguese nationals who lived in Wembley.
Two of the families, who are unrelated, lived less than a five-minute walk from one another, the report stated.
Cllr Butt said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash in the city of Ahmedabad. This tragedy profoundly affects Brent especially due to our strong connections to the region.
“I am aware that there are families in Brent who have been directly impacted by this tragedy and I cannot imagine the pain and sorrow they are experiencing.
“On behalf of everyone in Brent, I extend my heartfelt condolences to all those affected, and to the families who have lost loved ones. We share in the collective grief and extend our thoughts and prayers to you and your loved ones at this time.”
Shri Rajrajeshwar Guruji, who leads the Siddhashram Shakti Centre in Harrow, said that another couple on the flight had already lost their son in a previous aviation tragedy.
“This couple had gone to India for a religious celebration – they were coming back and now this has happened,” Mr Guruji, 53, said.
“After what has happened to their son as well – it’s just terrible to think about.”
He said he personally knew 20 people who were killed in the crash, all members of the Hindu community who had worshipped at his temple over the years.
The spiritual leader had last spoken to some of the victims as recently as two weeks ago.
The Brent Indian Association (BIA) has opened a condolence book at the front of their headquarters at 116 Ealing Rd, Wembley HA0 4TH.
A prayer meeting has also been organised on Saturday (June 14) from 5pm to 7pm to honour the lives lost and support those left behind.
Brent Council has also opened books of condolences at its libraries in Brent Civic Centre and on Ealing Road and Kingsbury.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said any British nationals requiring consular assistance, or who have concerns about family or friends, should call 020 7008 5000.
