This year’s ‘Age Well’ extravaganza at Bruce Castle Park on September 20, starting at noon, aims to connect older folk with community groups and organisations across Haringey as well as promote a positive attitude to their own health and wellbeing.
The festival has six zones, each with its own theme covering connection, creativity, eating well, physical activity and wellness.
It is free with another ‘purple parade’ through Bruce Castle Park where anyone joining in wears the colour “to defy age-related stereotypes”, along with live music and performance dance.
It follows last year’s festival staged by Haringey Council when seniors paraded in purple for a chance to be seen, heard and valued for their contributions to society.
It was inspired by Jenny Joseph’s popular poem Warning, about a person planning to make up for a lifetime of good behaviour and responsibilty by having fun, starting with the line ‘When I am an old woman I shall wear purple’.
