Abingdon on Thames (or as locals call it, just Abingdon) is a civil parish town in the Vale of the White Horse, just below Old Berkshire Downs.

Just over an hour and a half from London by car, you can also get to Abingdon by train in less than two hours.

Why you should visit the Oxfordshire market town of Abingdon
Whether you fancy a break from London and want an easy weekend or fancy a weekend of long walks, Abingdon is the perfect place.
According to Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council, the town is filled with ancient buildings that are jammed with “character and charm”.
With plenty to discover and enjoy, the town council encourages guests to visit the Information Centre in the Roysse Court Office to pick up a free map guide.

For fans of history, you can visit the Abingdon County Museum in the County Hall, which tells the story of the town and the surrounding areas’ past.
