Officers were called to concerns for a person’s welfare near Bean around 2.40am yesterday (June 29).
Paramedics and police arrived and all London-bound traffic was temporarily held near the Darenth Interchange.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.
He was conditionally bailed and must return to the police station on September 26.
One lane of the A2 remained closed for around 12 hours until 4.30pm due to the police incident, KentOnline reports.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at around 2.40am on Sunday 29 June to concerns for the welfare of a person near Bean.
“Officers and paramedics attended the scene and a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage.
“A 26-year-old local man was later conditionally bailed to return to the police station on 26 September.”
