Emergency services were called to the crash site close to the Wennington Interchange yesterday (December 1) at 3.16am following the incident.
It’s reported that a van and a car were involved.
Medics treated a man, 38, for a leg injury and he was rushed to hospital as a priority, where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life changing.
A 41-year-old man, who drove the car, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of several motoring offences.
He remains in police custody, with no injuries from the crash.
An investigation into the circumstances is underway.
There were long delays in the area, with traffic stretching to Ferry Lane in Rainham and down to Dagenham.
Before 12.30pm, the closure was lifted and traffic began to clear.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At around 03:20hrs on Monday, 1 December, police received reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a car on the A13, Rainham.
“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service, who treated the driver of the van – a 38-year-old man – for an injury to his leg.
“He was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life changing.
“The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man, was not injured, but arrested at the scene for several motoring offences and remains in police custody.
“Nobody else was injured in the incident and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.”
