The data, obtained by Accident Claims Advice, highlights the risks faced by firefighters as part of their day-to-day roles.
National figures for England show 2,408 on-duty firefighter injuries were recorded in the year to March 2024.
Around 40 per cent of those occurred during operational incidents, such as fires, rescues and emergency responses.
Adam Taylor, national officer at the Fire Brigades Union, said: “Too often firefighters are not being provided with the basic equipment and training they need to keep themselves and the public safe.

“Without proper PPE, firefighters face an impossible choice between heat stroke and exposing themselves to burns, either from flames or the sun. We urgently need investment to sort out this problem. We also need national standards on equipment and training, as well as response times and crewing levels.”
Firefighters in London regularly face unpredictable situations involving extreme heat, smoke, unstable buildings and traumatic incidents.
Injuries sustained on duty range from burns and smoke inhalation to musculoskeletal damage, slips and falls, and impact injuries caused by falling debris or contact with fixed objects. In 2022/23, a total of 374 staff injuries were recorded, but that number rose to 457 in the most recent year.

Accident Claims Advice said moving and handling was the top cause of injury in London, accounting for 30 incidents.
A further 28 injuries were recorded from staff striking against fixed or stationary objects.
Reduced staffing, complex incidents and ageing infrastructure have all been flagged as factors that can increase the risk of injury to emergency workers.
