Bambi is a London Fields cafe by day – with its high fidelity sound system and huge collection of records – while by night it transforms into a bar serving natural wines, cocktails and small plates.
The venue based in Netil House, Westgate Street closed on January 12 as the management knocks out the back wall and doubles the space to create a new mezzanine, a bigger dining area and more courtyard seating.
Posting on Instagram they said: “Bambi is getting bigger!
“We’re knocking through the back wall and doubling the size of our space. Expect a whole new layout, a swanky mezzanine overlooking the DJ booth, a bigger dining space, and loads more seating in the courtyard – complete with new plants and heaters (we’re already excited about summer).”
They also revealed that the front bar and outdoor seats would be walk-ins with no booking required and they would add more dishes to the menu.
They added: “And that’s not all! Bambi 2.0 means DJs behind the booth every single night – Tuesday through to Sunday! On weekends we’ll be clearing the tables away and the room will open up into a (now much bigger) dancefloor as Bambi turns into a party from 11pm until 1am… Get your dancing shoes ready!”
The news was greeted enthusiastically with one posting: “Gonna be even more special than it already is,” while another said: “Can’t wait.”
Bambi opened in October 2023 taking over the former site of Michelin starred restaurant Bright.
It is owned by James Dye, the guy behind Frank’s Café and The Camberwell Arms.
The food offer includes the likes of crab crumpet, shakshuka and Bambi chicken bun to a winter waldorf salad, Basque cheesecake, ginger tiramisu and chicken skewers.
Recent additions included Chalk Stream Trout gravadlax with beetroot, horseradish cream while cocktails range from the traditional Mimosa to a rhubarb cosmo.
Fans of the bar can see the transformation – which includes a brand new glitter ball – can give their verdict when the venue reopens on February 3.
Bambi is at Netil House, 1, Westgate Street, Hackney, E8.
