Emergency services were called to the scene at 1.19am today (January 16) after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman on scaffolding in Wellington Street.
Police say the woman, who is in her 20s, fell from height and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a life-threatening condition.
Blue-and-white police tape can be seen stretched across the road, with debris scattered across the carriageway close to a building covered in scaffolding and protective sheeting.
Several sections of street furniture and construction materials appear to have been displaced, while traffic and pedestrians are prevented from entering the area.
The road remains closed in both directions between the South Circular and Thomas Street, with bus routes 53, 54, 291, 380 and 422 diverted while investigations continue.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 01:19hrs on Friday, 16 January, following concerns for the welfare of a woman on scaffolding on Wellington Street, Woolwich.
