A film crew believed to be working on Marvel’s upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, was spotted filming at the Greenwich Naval College Gardens, lifestyle website Short;ist reports.
On Monday, January 12, its editor-in-chief Gerald Lynch shared a video from the scene on his Instagram page, showing what looks like Marvel’s film crew shooting the upcoming film Doomsday at the Greenwich Naval College Gardens.
A crew member was pictured in Avengers: Doomsday branded clothing.
The area seems to be dressed up like 1940s wartime in London – which Gerald seems to think would be “perfect” for Captain Steve Rogers – aka Captain America – to meet with his beloved Peggy Carter.
Shortlist reported that the public was unable to access the area while filming was underway.
A police chase scene through the historical streets was reportedly among the shots being captured.
While Marvel has not confirmed filming details, reports of the scenes have prompted speculation over Captain America’s role in the latest Avengers instalment.
It is suspected to follow familiar favourites, such as Thor, Fantastic Four, X-Men and The Wakandans (Black Panther storyline).
The 1940s setting and references to Steve Rogers suggest either a flashback or time-travel element within the story.
Greenwich’s rich architectural history has made it a popular filming location for many high-profile productions.
Past blockbusters shot at the Old Royal Naval College include Les Misérables, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Netflix’s The Crown.
Its distinctive look and versatile grounds offer filmmakers a backdrop that can stand in for various historical settings.
Marvel has not released any official plot details for Avengers: Doomsday, but fan theories are circulating online.
With characters spanning the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, the film is predicted to connect storylines from previous films and introduce new journeys.
The Old Royal Naval College is expected to reopen to the public once filming is complete.
