The drone, which was suspected of being used to illegally transport items, was seen flying over the prison from the cemetery at 2.50am yesterday (January 13).
Officers searched the area and found a car on Magdalen Road which then sped off after the occupants saw the police.
The car then turned right onto Ellerton Road and was stopped on Loxley Road, the Metropolitan Police said.
Three people inside the vehicle were detained and were searched due to a smell of cannabis.
Near the car, officers saw a Sainsbury’s bag that had a “large number of wrapped items”.
They were seized and all three occupants were arrested on suspicion of conveying prohibited items into a prison.
The Met said: “If you spot a drone near to the prison or have information about suspicious activity near to HMP Wandsworth, please report via 999 immediately.”
