Jukebox Ldn, in South Street, reopened on Friday (January 9) following a week-long refurbishment which included new lighting, artwork and VIP seating areas.
Following a “successful” weekend of relaunch parties, the Recorder caught up with owner Danny Woodhouse about the reaction to their new look.
Danny told the Recorder: “Everybody’s been positive about it, to be honest.
“Everyone says it looks really, really good – it looks fresh, it looks new again.
“Obviously after six years, it’s needed a freshen up.
“Things get a little bit tatty when you’re getting 1,000 people in there each week […] and it just needed a little facelift.”
Jukebox Ldn welcomed a whole host of upgrades during its refurb, including new VIP booths throughout and the extension of some VIP areas, new light-up tables, and fresh lighting around the front of the bars.
New artwork has also been added throughout the venue, with an artist brought in to spray paint murals and quotes across the venue, Danny said.
The independent business owner hopes that the spruce up will keep regulars interested as the club approaches its sixth anniversary in Romford town centre.
He said: “The last two, three years, it’s been very, very busy every single week, so I just didn’t want that to drop.
“We’re the only nightclub left in Romford now, and obviously being a family-run business as well.
“We’re not part of a big chain, and it’s quite impressive that all of the bigger companies have obviously gone and we’re like the last man standing, so to speak.
“At the end of the day, people do get bored of going to the same places all the time, [and] we are the only option.
“So you’re just trying to give them a fresh new look.
“I think we pulled it off with what we’ve done.”
Jukebox will celebrate six years of business at the end of the month, with some guest DJs planned for January 30 and 31 – to be announced soon.
