The Crusting Pipe, a long-standing fixture in Covent Garden’s market hall since 1980, shut its doors on December 21 after more than four decades serving visitors in the heart of London.
It was one of the original tenants in the redeveloped Covent Garden market hall, which transformed the former fruit and vegetable market into a lively entertainment and hospitality destination.
Davy’s, which operated The Crusting Pipe, said: “As trading environments and customer habits have evolved, this chapter has now come to a close.
“We remain grateful to the many team members and customers who contributed to the character and success of The Crusting Pipe over the years.”
The wine bar’s closure is part of a broader trend seen across the capital.
Several other well-loved pubs and bars have also shut down in recent months.
Other venues to close in 2025 include Hackney pub The Gun, the iconic Soho bar G-A-Y, and Ye Olde Swiss Cottage, a north London pub with a history spanning more than 200 years.
The trend has also affected the restaurant scene, with a number of popular dining spots closing at the end of last year.
