New figures from the Department for Education show that Greenwich is the highest-ranking borough in south-east London, with 72 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Lewisham ranked fourth overall in the region, with 68 per cent of pupils reaching the standard.
The borough rankings place Greenwich ahead of Bromley, Southwark, Lewisham and Bexley, giving it the strongest overall performance out of all the boroughs.
Lewisham followed behind Bromley and Southwark, but ranked above Bexley.
In Greenwich, Deansfield Primary School ranked highest, with 91 per cent of pupils meeting the expected standard.
Other schools which feature highly included St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School and Notre Dame Catholic Primary School, both at 88 per cent.
In Lewisham, Haberdashers’ Hatcham Free School led the borough with a score of 90 per cent, followed closely by Turnham Academy at 88 per cent and Trinity Church of England School, Lewisham, at 86 per cent.
The figures show the percentage of pupils who reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Schools showing a zero per cent result due to insufficient data have been removed.
Pupils are only counted as meeting the expected standard overall if they achieve the standard in all three subjects.
The expected standard in reading and maths is a scaled score of 100 or above, while writing is assessed by teachers, with pupils judged as “working at the expected standard” or “working at greater depth”.
The deadline to apply for primary school places is January 15, 2026, for entry for the academic year 2026 starting in September.
