The Kilburn High Road venue dates back to 1869 and was originally called The Earl Derby, but it’s now serving up dishes from the Asian country, alongside karaoke, screened sports matches, and cocktails.
The pub was popular with the Irish community from the 60s to the 90s and was later renamed The Golden Egg, but it closed in 2013 not long after a man accidentally shot himself in the leg in the toilets.
It underwent another name change and a spruce-up to reopen as The Earl of Derby but closed a year ago, and most recently operated as Persian cocktail bar and nightclub Baroon Lounge.
It followed a successful licensing application by Mitchells & Butlers Leisure Retail Limited to open from 8am until midnight Sunday to Thursday, with a closing time of 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The application also included televised sports matches, playing recorded and live music, including DJs, singers and karaoke, “dancing by staff throughout the premises”, and indoor pub games such as pool and darts.
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) website commented after visiting: “Newly opened Mongolian bar with food. Twin Peaks vibe! Dance floor complete with glitter ball. Mongolian karaoke. Party all day and night with no windows!”
Listing a pool table, darts, DJ nights, live bands and karaoke nights among their offer the new management wrote: “Welcome to The Goat Lounge, a newly opened Mongolian-themed pub lounge where tradition meets modern flavour.
“Inspired by the rich culture of Mongolia, our space blends authentic decor, warm hospitality, and a lively atmosphere.
“Enjoy a wide selection of drinks alongside our exciting food menu, featuring bold flavours, hearty bites, and unique dishes you won’t find anywhere else.”
Broadly positive Google reviews reveal the restaurant serves the likes of beef and noodles, chicken wings, barbecue ribs and Mongolian meat pastries khuushuur.
One commented: “Staff were warm and attentive and the place had a lovely atmosphere. I had the pork cutlet with rice and my partner chose beef noodles (which were very tasty). The goat lager and cider also went down well.
“We wish this new restaurant every success and will definitely return in the future.”
Another wrote: “Lovely new restaurant. Yummy food, especially liked the beef broth, perfect for winter.”
While a third commented: “The pub has a cosy, welcoming atmosphere with a unique interior that makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.
“It’s conveniently located on Kilburn High Road and easy to find, whether you’re local or just passing through the area.”
