Police have been investigating the fatal stabbing in Grove Street on Wednesday (December 31) at 12.35pm, where a 23-year-old man died at the scene.
Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man today (January 2) on suspicion of murder and they both remain in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend has said the arrests are a “significant development”, but much work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
John Temitope Onetufo, from Deptford, has also been named today as the stabbing victim.
His family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
According to the Metropolitan Police, John suffered a single stab wound to the chest and a suspect fled the scene.
DCI Townsend said: “My team has worked relentlessly over recent days to pursue every line of enquiry, and I can confirm that two arrests have now been made in connection with this tragic incident.”
She added: “I want to extend my deepest sympathies to John’s family and friends. We remain committed to finding answers and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
