A blue Nissan Almera crashed on the northbound carriageway between junction 6 and 7 for Epping and Harlow shortly before 7.40pm today (January 1).
The extent of injuries to anyone involved is not yet known.
The road was closed while emergency services responded to the collision and investigated.
There was a less serious crash on the other carriageway at a similar time which police believe was a separate incident.
Officers are asking anyone who saw what happened or has any dashcam footage to make contact quoting incident 1161 of January 1.
