The 40-year-old has hosted the music game show since it first aired in 2020, seeing the likes of McFly star Danny Jones and Busted’s Charlie Simpson being crowned winners over the years.
The Masked Singer sees the current all-star panel made up of Davina McCall, Maya Jama, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross, as well as the studio audience and viewers at home, attempt to guess “who’s that behind the mask?” as celebrities sing their hearts out beneath weird and wonderful costumes.
But it seems for the 2025 festive spin-off, Joel just couldn’t help himself during the episode after he recognised the “chuckle” coming from character Mistletoe, which ended up with the presenter announcing the celebrity’s name on stage in a moment of chaos.
It’s said the studio audience exploded into laughter at the time, as Joel “couldn’t believe” he did it, and sank to the floor in embarrassment.
He told The Sun: “I can’t believe I did it.
“This person was chuckling in the costume and it’s a chuckle I know well and I said their name. It just came out. Their actual name!”
He added: “Thankfully, they had pretty much guessed who it was.
“But producers did reiterate to me that I wasn’t to do that again.
“I was on the naughty step.”
