The problem was first reported by Thames Water in Plumstead at 9.15am on Saturday, December 6.
Thames Water said it is aware of the issue and has identified the burst pipe.
Specialist teams have been dispatched to manage water flows and commence repair work as swiftly and safely as possible.
However, the work will mean that some customers may experience low pressure or a temporary lack of water supply.
Thames Water said that it has found the burst pipe and crews are working to turn off the water supply in order to make repairs.
This needs a valve to be installed which will allow the crew to fix the problem.
Thames Water said that this will lead to no water or low pressure for some while the work is completed.
An update will be provided at 4pm.
A statement on the Thames Water website said: “Our specialist teams have found the burst pipe and are working to safely turn off the water so repairs can begin.
“To do this, we need to install a valve, which will allow us to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
“While this work is happening, some customers may experience low water pressure or a temporary loss of water.”
The water supplier has apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured customers of a prompt resolution.
