The project, which will replace the existing blocks in South Norwood with up to 340 new homes, recently cleared a key hurdle after receiving unanimous approval at the planning committee.
It is now in the second stage of review by the Greater London Authority.
Once the GLA signs off on the plans, construction can begin, bringing residents closer to the safe, modern and energy-efficient homes they have been calling for.
The scheme will deliver 225 affordable homes, including at least 215 council homes, alongside new green spaces, a multi-use games area, improved lighting and security, a nursery, a community hub and better walking and cycling routes.
Lovell Partnerships has been selected as the preferred contractor to deliver the work, following a process that involved residents throughout.
The Regina Road Resident Working Group helped shape the selection process to ensure the chosen firm reflects the community’s needs and expectations.
Lovell, which has delivered more than 4,000 affordable homes this year and has over 50 years’ regeneration experience, says it will work closely with residents as the project progresses.
The company is also promising more than 100 apprenticeship opportunities and wider support for skills, education and local enterprise.
Lorraine Casey, Regional Managing Director for London at Lovell Partnerships Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Croydon Council to deliver the regeneration of Regina Road.
“This is a resident-led project, and Lovell is proud to work with the Council and the community to help create an inclusive and welcoming place for local people.
“We look forward to working with residents, partners and community groups to create opportunities in skills, education, jobs and local enterprise that will support and strengthen the Croydon community for years to come.”
Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said: “Selecting Lovell is another major step forward for Regina Road and for the community who have waited a long time for change.
“We are now moving from plans into delivering the modern council homes that residents deserve.
“Lovell has the experience and the approach needed for a project of this scale.
“They support my priority to raise housing standards, provide more affordable homes and build a Croydon that people are proud to call home.”
