Eugene Ryan, 74, died at his home on November 14.
An inquest into his death was opened at East London Coroner’s Court, Walthamstow, on Tuesday, December 2.
Dr Shirley Radcliffe told the court that Mr Ryan was born in Limerick, Ireland, but was living in Glebe Road, Rainham.
It heard that on November 9 he attended Queen’s reporting weakness, drowsiness and a left-sided facial droop.
He was given antibiotics for a suspected urinary infection and a CT scan was performed which revealed a subdural hematoma – a collection of blood between his skull and his brain.
Mr Ryan was discharged from the hospital but died days later.
His cause of death was given as 1a) subdural haemorrhage and 2) atrial fibrillation, paranoid schizophrenia, hypertensive disease.
A full inquest into his death will take place next year.
