Several emergency service vehicles were lined up outside the station on Sunday (November 30) following reports of a “casualty”.
A man, whose age has not been disclosed, has been taken to hospital for treatment.
According to the British Transport Police, he faces “life-changing injuries”.
Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious, the force has clarified.
The District line was part suspended on Sunday between Barking and Upminster as the man was cleared from the track.
There was still a good service on the rest of the line.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 9am yesterday (30 November) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Dagenham East railway station.
“Officers responded with paramedics and a man was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
