The emergency services were called to a casualty on the tracks at Penge East station at around 10.30am today (November 26).
Paramedics arrived with police officers but a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Train lines between Beckenham and Herne Hill were closed following the incident with services cancelled or delayed by 60 minutes.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Penge East railway station at 10.38am today (26 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
