KFC has confirmed that its Gallows Corner branch, which sits in between Straight Road and Colchester Road, will temporarily shut in January 2026.
However, the fried chicken takeaway assured that this is not related to the Gallows Corner works, but is instead due to planned renovations.

The refurbishment will include an improved seating area, upgrades to the exterior and new signage.
The Recorder understands that the Straight Road KFC will be partially shut from mid-January, followed by a full closure towards the end of the month.
A KFC spokesperson said: “We’ll be closing our doors for a few short weeks in January before coming back better than ever and ready for 2026.
“While we’re getting our refresh on, you can still enjoy our finger lickin’ chicken at our nearby South Street restaurant or through delivery.”
In August, this paper spoke to one of the branch’s shift managers who said the Gallows Corner closure has caused “big damage” to the Straight Road restaurant.
He told us “half” their sales have gone and some staff at the branch “don’t get hours” because there are not enough sales.
Despite numerous other businesses left “struggling”, Transport for London (TfL) said last week that it has no plans for a compensation scheme.
