Chadwell Heath Academy has been recognised as a centre of Excellence by the Leadership Skills Foundation for the 2025 to 2026 academic year.
The title is awarded to those who have “a deeply held commitment to developing essential leadership skills” in their students.
Only 37 out of more than 2,500 centres were selected, after an evaluation process that considers criteria such as leadership pathways, school culture, innovative strategies, and student performance.
Chadwell Heath Academy’s PE department was praised for its work using the level two leadership skills foundation qualification, which is said to have benefited 192 students.
Richard Poddington, headteacher of Chadwell Heath Academy, said: “I would like to thank my staff and students for their unwavering commitment to breaking down barriers in education and creating such a rich environment for personal growth.
“Developing leadership skills is a transformative quality that not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the fabric of our community.
“When we nurture leaders, we invest in a future where collaboration, resilience, and vision drive meaningful change for all.”
The school plans to continue its work by introducing the level three leadership skills foundation qualification to sixth formers.
Richard Norman, chief executive for the Leadership Skills Foundation, said: “We are delighted to award Chadwell Heath Academy with centre of excellence status for the coming academic year.
“Across the 2,500 centres we work with, Chadwell Heath Academy offers an incredible experience for its students to develop essential leadership skills and it is a privilege to work with them.”
