Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has opened its 2025 Christmas Toy Appeal, inviting the community to donate gifts for young patients who will be spending the holiday season at University Hospital Lewisham (UHL) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
Donations of new, unwrapped toys are being accepted until December 22, and can be dropped off at the main receptions of UHL and QEH between 10am and 3pm daily.
Additional drop-off points include the ‘Giving Box’ in Central Square at Lewisham Shopping Centre.
Robert Cole, head of nursing for children and young people at the trust, said: “It’s always wonderful to see the generosity people show towards our younger patients at this time of year.
“Every child and younger patient in hospital deserves to enjoy a little festive magic and our local communities really take us to their hearts.
“We see the difference it makes and anything you can spare is sincerely appreciated.
“Thank you.”
Suitable donations include baby toys, books, educational games, sensory items, arts and crafts sets, board games and toiletries gift sets.
For infection control reasons, cuddly toys cannot be accepted.
The appeal is supported this year by Lewisham Shopping Centre, which has named it as its official charity partner for the festive season.
Margarita Vidiella, head of charity and volunteers at the trust, said: “We’re excited to open our 2025 Christmas Toy Appeal which is the perfect way for people to spread some festive joy and show support for our younger patients.
“Your kindness will help us make Christmas in hospital a little less challenging for the children and families we have with us here at LGT.
“We’re also thrilled to have been adopted as this year’s charity partner for the Lewisham Shopping Centre – you’ll see us there fundraising, along with Biskers, our floofy, friendly Charity Mascot, so please come over to say hello, get some photos and find out more.”
Paul Redden, centre director at Lewisham Shopping Centre, said: “The festive season is a time of togetherness and community, where everyone deserves to feel loved and cared for, which is why it’s a real pleasure to be supporting University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital this year.
“We can’t wait to raise awareness and donations, and most importantly some festive happiness for the younger patients within the Lewisham and Greenwich area.”
