The town of Deal in Kent was recently named one of the best places to go for a winter getaway by Time Out.
The outlet listed the areas of the UK that offer “a cosy weekend” getaway with the fresh sea air and snug pubs as key features.
Deal was described as being the best place to head for “cosy-loving foodies” as Time Out wrote: “Plenty of places in Kent are magical in winter (we’re looking at you, Whitstable and Margate), but for a proper cosy little getaway, there’s nowhere better than Deal.
“Stay at foodie boutique hotel the Rose for the weekend, do a tour of its cute pubs and check out newly-opened bistro Cherub’s on the seafront, serving up cosy French classics.”

Deal, the ‘cosy’ Kent seaside town
Deal is within easy reach of London; you can reach the town in an hour and a half via St Pancras International or in just over two hours via London Bridge.
You can also drive to the town, which takes around two and a half hours via the M2 and A2.
The town is slightly quieter than some of its seaside counterparts, but it has plenty of character.
Deal is best known for its castle, which was built in 1539 by King Henry VIII. The Tudor fortress was used right up until the 18th century.

Visitors can still visit and walk around its remains with a ticket costing £7.70 for adults and £4 for children.
Deal is also home to the Timeball Tower, where you can climb the steps for stunning views of the Kent coast and learn about this maritime landmark, which once helped sailors synchronise their timepieces.
The nearby beach is also a good space for a stroll, with a pebbled beach, its pier dating back to the 1950s, and views of Deal Castle on the seafront.
