Shenfield, in Brentwood, has been listed among the top 75 happiest places to live in the country as part of a new nationwide survey.
The Essex town ranked 63rd overall, and was also noted as the happiest location in the county.
The survey, conducted by Furniturebox, asked 5,000 people across the country for their views on the happiest places in each county and big city.

Locations were then ranked according to the beauty of surroundings and green spaces, the provision of good state schools, the amount of ‘affordable’ housing, and access to quality pubs, independent shops, and cultural attractions.
Furtiturebox said the list represents places that are full of “joy, belonging, and that all-important sense of home”.
Estate agent Beresfords says Shenfield has ‘highly-regarded’ schools, such as Shenfield High School (Image: Google Maps)
Shenfield has previously been called the “best commuter town not just in Essex but in any of the home counties” by estate agent Beresfords.
Its area guide for the town mentions the Elizabeth line, as well as regular bus services to nearby towns such as Billericay, Ingatestone and Romford.
Plenty of green spaces and an “excellent selection of highly-regarded schools” in the area are also an attraction for families, Beresfords says.

The estate agent concludes: “Offering amazing urban convenience, yet a peaceful escape from the capital’s buzzing atmosphere, it is no surprise that Shenfield is one of the most desirable destinations among commuting professionals.
“And, with the combination of top-rated schools and abundant green spaces, Shenfield is a true gem for families with children.”
