Islington Council has been allocated almost £4 million from the Department for Work and Pensions to support vulnerable households.
Anyone living in Islington and receiving Pension Credit, could receive a £200 one-off payment to help with household costs.
Applicants must be aged 66 or over, on a low income, receive Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit) and live permanently in Islington.
The fund also supports households with children on free school meals or under school age, low-income pensioners, carers, and disabled residents and foster carers and residents with high housing costs.
There’s one payment per household and money is limited, so anyone eligible has been urged to apply early. Successful applicants will hear back within 21 days of applying.
Islington Council may use existing benefit and support records (e.g. Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction) to assess eligibility. So if you’re not sure whether it applies to you, it’s worth checking.
Applicants should be aware that people are using fake Household Support Fund information in order to scam people.
The council will not send you a text message about the Household Support Fund or an email asking you to make a payment to Islington Council, before you receive your payment.
