Billy Smith, 35, is one of two prisoners to have been released from the prison in error in a matter of days.
The second prisoner and 24-year-old Algerian national, Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, has yet to be tracked after he was released from HMP Wandsworth on October 29.
Smith’s return was filmed by ITV News.
He is understood to have been accompanied to the prison by his partner, who he hugged before speaking to prison staff at the entrance.

The news follows Justice minister Alex Davies-Jones revealing that prison chiefs were being summoned for a meeting on November 6, and a team of digital experts had been tasked with overhauling the “archaic” paper-based system of prisoner records.
Surrey Police told PA Agency : “We are cancelling our appeal to help find wanted 35-year-old William Smith who was released in error from HMP Wandsworth on Monday, November 3. Smith handed himself in to HMP Wandsworth today.”
