Kannan Kumarasamy, 32, of London Road in Mitcham, crashed his car on the roundabout in March, Cambridgeshire, on the evening of May 26.
The force of the collision resulted in flames coming from under the bonnet.
Kumarasamy claimed he hadn’t seen the roundabout as one of his headlights was too dim, but he was found to be more than double the legal limit by a breath test.
Kumarasamy was handed a 17-month driving ban and a £120 fine after he admitted drink driving at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday October 17.
PC Josh Yeomans, who investigated, said: “Getting behind the wheel while intoxicated is a reckless decision, and it is very fortunate that no one was seriously injured.
“As we head into the winter months, it is more important than ever to ensure that all your lights are working, and the car is ready for the road before setting off on your journey.”
The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline – 0800 032 0845 – which is available 24/7 and allows the reporting of those believed to be driving under the influence.
Information about drink driving, the law and the penalties, can be found on the force’s website.
