Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have tackled the blaze in Tunnel Avenue yesterday (November 4) from 6.15pm.
The London Fire Brigade says that a small number of crews remain on scene this morning (November 5), dampening down and putting out deep seated pockets of fire.
According to the brigade, this is likely to continue for a number of hours.
The fire produced a “significant amount of smoke” in the area as it was alight.
While two people were evacuated from a neighbouring building as a precaution, there have been no reports of any injuries.
Firefighters eventually had the flames under control by 9.04pm.
Road closures were in place this morning, including at the Tunnel Avenue and Blackwall Lane.
The Blackwall Lane slip road leading to the northbound Blackwall Tunnel was also closed.
Drivers were advised to find alternative routes and to expect extended journey times.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
