Harlow Chorus began its 50th anniversary celebrations with a concert at St John’s Church in Epping on Saturday, November 1, performing Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle under the baton of its new musical director, James Potter.

Despite fireworks crackling nearby, the choir delivered full throated choruses.
Gareth Oakland, who travelled from Bishop’s Stortford to attend, said: “I was blown away by the performance.
“Four brilliant young soloists and some memorable set piece choruses delivered at pace.
“The finale – a superb solo mezzo with a seated chorus singing from memory – was simply stunning.”

The concert featured soloists Caroline Bourg (soprano), Louisa Stuart-Smith (mezzo-soprano), Harry Jacques (tenor) and Jack Holton (bass).
They were accompanied by Aeron Preston and Sam Mitchell on piano and Jonathan Lilley on harmonium.

Epping resident Kathryn Sperry said: “A sparkling performance, full of energy and impact.
“Everyone combined to make this first performance under the choir’s new musical director a memorable occasion.”
Harlow Chorus will next perform at its annual carol concert on Saturday, December 6 at 6pm at St Stephen’s Church in Harlow.
