Declan Diedrick, of no fixed abode, injured the officer on December 29, 2023 in Hull Grove, Harlow, leaving her needing urgent hospital treatment.
He was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent by a jury at Chelmsford Crown Court last Thursday (October 30).
The incident occurred after police received calls about concerns for the safety of Diedrick, who was in possession of a seven-inch serrated knife.
Upon their arrival, Diedrick attacked the officers.
Detective Superintendent Dan Morrissey said: “The determination and violence Diedrick showed that night was truly horrifying.
“One of the officers attacked described the Diedrick’s actions as like something from a Scream film.”
Despite the injuries, the officers remain in frontline policing duties.
Essex Police Federation chair Steve Martin said: “Despite the severity of the assault, our officers demonstrated exceptional courage and professionalism, successfully restraining the individual and preventing further harm.
“Their bravery and resilience in the face of such violence deserves recognition.”
He also praised a member of the public who intervened during the attack, saying his act of heroism prevented “an even more tragic outcome”.
