The residents experienced “the drama and passion” of live performance at the Southgate Beaumont home, which evoked emotions and memories.
Michael, one resident, said: “Lots of people think opera is really stuffy but it is amazing how much opera music is part of everyday life, either as theme tunes or in ads on TV.
“People know far more opera music than they think they do – even if they’ve never been to see one!”
Southgate Beaumont which provides nursing, residential and respite care puts on live performances to help their residents to stay connected.
Its manager Beatrice Godfrey said: “They love all kinds of music and talk about their favourite songs and singers. World Opera Day was an excuse to listen to this wonderful style of music.”
The home’s ‘enrichment’ programme keeps residents active and provides physical, mental and spiritual activities which are tailored to their personal interests and abilities.
