The projects include Wembley’s ‘Creative Community Brent’ programme, which gets a share of a £6.4 million pot for the next three years to creating grassroots activity “in areas where arts and culture involvement is below the national average”.
A steering group and Wembley’s Young and Creative panel run the Brent programme that commissions projects for others to get involved in.
“It’s all happening right on their doorstep,” Arts Council chief executive Darren Henley said. “This gives people the experience of artistic excellence with professional creators and performers in their own neighbourhoods.”
The three-year package is the latest stage of a national programme started in 2012 to create activities where people live rather than concentrated in centralised venues, with grassroots organisations running activities of their choosing.
The funding comes from the National Lottery, with every ticket bought generating money for the arts where people live.
