Police were called to a residential property at McCormick House, yesterday (October 27) at 4.16pm following reports of a man with a knife.
Officers used a Taser on the man, 59, and he was arrested on suspicion of murder, grievous bodily harm and threats to kill.
He remains in custody.
The woman was found dead with multiple stab wounds.
Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing for Lambeth, said: “This is a deeply shocking crime and our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the woman who sadly died.
“Our officers have arrested a man, who remains in custody, and are working at pace to piece together what happened.
“We realise this is particularly disturbing for those living in the local area. Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the coming days and are encouraged to reach out to officers if they have any concerns.”
